Introduction
As a foodie, I’m always on the lookout for new and interesting restaurants to try. I was recently introduced to the concept of black-owned restaurants and was intrigued. I did some research and found that there are quite a few black-owned restaurants in Atlanta, Georgia. Here are some of the ones that I’ve been able to check out so far.
The first restaurant on my list is Capers Kennesaw. This restaurant is owned by Chef Shaun Doty and serves up some delicious Southern cuisine. The menu features items such as shrimp and grits, fried chicken, and collard greens. I really enjoyed my meal here and will definitely be back again soon.
Next up is Forks & Flavors, which is owned by Chef Michael Twitty. This restaurant specializes in traditional Jewish comfort food with a twist. Some of the dishes that I tried included matzo ball soup, latkes, and brisket. Everything was absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to go back again soon.

The Importance of Black-Owned Businesses
African Americans have long been underrepresented in the business world. According to a 2017 report from the US Census Bureau, only 4.8 percent of businesses in the United States are owned by black people. This statistic is even lower when you look at specific industries; for example, less than one percent of restaurants are black-owned.
There are a number of reasons why this lack of representation is problematic. First and foremost, it means that black people have less control over their own economic destiny. When the vast majority of businesses are owned by other groups, it’s harder for black entrepreneurs to get started and to succeed. Additionally, black-owned businesses tend to reinvest more money into their communities than non-black-owned businesses. A study from George Mason University found that for every dollar spent at a black-owned business, 67 cents stays within the local community, compared to only 30 cents for non-black-owned businesses.
This lack of investment has real consequences for black communities. Studies have shown that areas with more black-owned businesses have lower rates of crime and unemployment, and higher rates of home ownership and educational attainment. In short, investing in black-owned businesses is good not just for those businesses but also for the entire community.
So how can we increase the number of black-owned businesses? One way is through targeted support from government agencies and foundations. Another is by encouraging consumers to patronize these businesses through initiatives like #BuyBlackFriday and #BankBlack Movement . But perhaps the most important thing we can do is simply raise awareness about the importance of supporting black entrepreneurship. Only by coming together as a community can we hope to close the gap between white-owned and black-owned businesses in America
